Following are the most frequent reasons initial manuscript submissions and revised manuscript submissions are returned to authors for attention:
Initial Manuscript Submissions:
- Line numbers are missing
(see JN Instructions for Authors,
Manuscript Preparation section)
- Missing information (title page, abstract page, figures, tables)
- OSM not included at end of text file
- OSM footnote missing from title page
(see JN Instructions for Authors,
Online Supporting Material section)
- Tables/figures labeled incorrectly
Revised Manuscript Submissions:
- Line numbers are missing
- Source file format (text file must be a Word document; figure files must be in PDF, JPEG, TIFF, EPS, Word or PPT format)
- Online Supporting Material problems
(see JN Instructions for Authors,
Online Supporting Material section)
- not in text file
- supplemental file not a pdf
- footnote on title page missing or incorrect format
- OSM figure or table labeled incorrectly
- OSM page header missing
- Figures embedded in text source file
- Figures uploaded in single source file
- Tables uploaded separately from text source file
- Requested highlighting that indicates new material/changes missing from text file
(The JN conversion system does not always retain the requested yellow highlighting during conversion when the text source file is a Word document resulting in the highlighting not being visible in the system generated pdf. If this occurs, please insure that the highlighting is present in the uploaded text source file)
- Response to Reviewers not provided
PLEASE NOTE:
If the HTML reference page is completely blank:
- Make sure your Literature Cited section includes a recognized heading and that the heading is not set in all caps (use upper and lower case letters, as shown below). Recognized headings include the following:
- References
- Reference List
- Literature Cited
- References and further reading
- Bibliography
- Literature
- When a pdf text source file is uploaded the references are not always successfully extracted. Use the ‘edit references’ link and copy/paste the reference list.
