1. Basal metabolic rates were determined on a group of thirtynormal young women who have lived in Florida 8 years or longer. The average deviations calculated from prediction standardswere: Aub-DuBois, modified by Boothby and Sandiford, -14.1 percent; Harris-Benedict, -13.0 per cent.
2. Basal metabolicrates were determined on a group of 8 youngwomen who had recentlycome from northern states. The averagedeviations were -7.7per cent from the modified Aub-DuBois standard,-7.8 per centfrom the Harris-Benedict (extrapolated).
3. A comparison ofthe average basal metabolism of young womenliving in Floridawith those from northern states shows a decidedlylower ratefor Florida women.
4. A 4-day dietary study on eighteen youngwomen of the groupliving in Florida showed an average intakeof 1.23 gm. proteinand 39.9 calories per kilogram of body weightper day. The proteinwas of good quality.
5. No consistentrelationship was noted between basal metabolismand proteinor calorie intake.
