The Amino Acid Composition and Nutritive Value of Proteins

V. Amino Acid Requirements as a Pattern for Protein Evaluation1

The pattern of essential amino acid requirements of the growing rat has been used as a reference "protein" for estimating the nutritive value of various proteins. A "requirement index" is proposed as a chemical estimate of the nutritive value of proteins. Its correlation with the biological value of 11 proteins is highly significant (r = 0.9654).
