Problems in the Prediction of Protein Values of Diets: Caloric Restriction
D. S. Miller
and
P. R. Payne
Human Nutrition Research Unit, National Institute for Medical Research, London, England
1. An equation is presented for the prediction of the protein
value of diets when fed under conditions of caloric restriction:
where C is the caloric
intake per day per kilogram of body weight to the power of 0.73.
2. Observed values for NDpCals % for 6 diets fed to rats over
a range of caloric intakes agree well with the values from the
equation.
3. A nomogram is presented for the easy solution
of the equation
which it is proposed tentatively could be applied
to man.
