1. Pantethine was compared with calcium pantothenate in chickgrowth assays by three methods of administration: incorporationin the diet, by mouth, and intraperitoneal injection.
2. Pantethinewhen incorporated in the diet was found to beat least 90% asactive in promoting chick growth as calciumpantothenate basedon the equivalent pantothenic acid content.
3. The relativepotency of pantethine administered by pipettewas similar tothat found when the compound was incorporatedin the diet ifthe dosages administered were relatively small. However, athigher dosage levels, pantethine was considerablyinferior tocalcium pantothenate.
4. Pantethine was equally as activein promoting growth as calciumpantothenate when injected.
5.Pantetheine or its mercury mercaptide were as active as pantethinewhen administered by mouth or intraperitoneally.
