- 1. Using protein-depleted adult rats, the effect of the time factor in the feeding of protein and carbohydrate has been investigated. It was found that the N retention and growth of the rats which received protein and sugar simultaneously were in all cases considerably higher than those of the rats which received these two food substances separately.
- 2. The protein-sparing and growth-promoting effects of simultaneous feeding have been demonstrated for a period of 14 days.
- 3. The biological significance of these results is discussed.
