Factors Which Determine Renal Weight*

VII. Protein Intake and Age. (Second Paper)

Eaton M. MacKay and Lois Lockard MacKay

(From the Department of Medicine, Stanford University Medical School, San Francisco.)

An extended study of the linear relationship between renal weight and protein intake confirms our previous conclusion that it is uninfluenced by age. The empirical linear formula, protein intake = 0.0183 renal weight –2.75, proved to be a satisfactory expression of the relationship in normal male rats 70, 130, 220, and 400 days of age when receiving adequate amounts of protein in the form of casein.
