conclusions
1. Young rabbits fed a purified ration supplementedwith purevitamin preparations grew at a nearly normal rate.
2. Rabbits fed this purified diet require niacin for survivaland adequate growth.
3. Symptoms shown by rabbits receivingthe niacin deficientdiet are loss of weight and usually severediarrhea 24 to 48hours before death.
4. Rabbits fed the dietcontaining adequate amount of niacinbut pair-fed with littermates receiving the niacin deficientration died as early asthe deficient animals and showed simliarsymptoms.
5. Rabbitsfed the niacin deficient diet for 3 months or longershowedsignificantly less niacin in the voluntary muscles thanthelitter mates given niacin.
