1. When chicks receive a ration that contains no vitamins exceptthose now recognized as such, they grow slowly and develop perosis.
2. A water extract of beef liver contains all unrecognizedvitaminsrequired by the chick.
3. The unrecognized vitaminsrequired by chicks are adsorbedfrom a water extract of liverby fuller's earth at a pH of 1.0.The activity is readily elutedby 0.2 N ammonia. During theadsorption procedure approximatelyone-third of the total activityis lost.
4. A simplified diethas been prepared that is adequate forthe growth of chicksand does not contain over 1% of crude vitamincarriers.
