1. The presence in the diet of manganese and certain of theother trace elements has been found essentialfor the prevention of the deformity of the tibiae and metatarsiof chicks, known as perosis. Indications were also obtainedthat these elements exercised a favorable influence on growth.
2. The addition of 0.0025 to 0.015% of manganese to a dietcontaining0.0010% of this element was sufficient to almostentirely preventperosis.
3. Zinc and aluminum possessed asimilar property but were somewhatless effective.
4. A mixtureof manganese, aluminum and iron was entirely preventivein thepresence of limited amounts of calcium and phosphorus.
5.The perosis-preventing property of certain cereal productswasrelated to their content of manganese.
