Magnesium Ferrite as a Marker in Absorption Trials with Chicks1

H. Neumark, Rachel Bielorai and B. Iosif

Division of Animal Nutrition, ARO, The Volcani Center, 50250 Bet Dagan, Israel

Magnesium ferrite, a non-radioactive marker which can be measured by a simple method, was used for determination of nitrogen absorption in chicks. A strong resemblance was obtained between the results with this marker and those obtained previously with 91Y. Nitrogen absorption values for a feather meal sample were not influenced by the diets nor by the experimental design.

KEY WORDS: • magnesium ferrite • absorption • marker
