1. Four successive generations of chicks have been reared onsimplified rations.
2. All chicks grew rapidly. The maleswere normal in appearancethroughout the period of observationbut their fertility waslow. The females were normal until theyattained maturity, andtheir egg records compared favorablywith those obtained undernormal conditions. After periods ofintensive egg laying themortality of the hens was high.
3.Data published by other investigators indicate that the lowfertility of the males and the high mortality of the femalescan be explained by the fact they were reared under laboratoryconditions. If this explanation is correct the simplified dietsare complete in all respects.
